Technology in Education Thoughts

There are many different opinions from educators on how to handle teaching technology to our students. Some teachers feel that students know technology so we should not be teaching it. Other teachers feel students don't know how to use technology for anything else other than socializing. There are many different types of ways to implement technology into the classroom. Is it really worth it? Well I personally feel it depends on the way the technology is used. Obvious right? Here is the comment I never hear educators say. "Technology is such a new idea in education, no one really knows what is the best way is to use technology. We are all just trying to figure things out." It seems like everyone has a strong opinion on what, how, and why we use technology in education. I feel that technology is advancing so fast and it is so new that no one can really predict the implications of technology in education. One thing is definitely for sure. We do need technology in education, so lets as educators keep trying to figure out how it should be used in education.

Being A Teacher

I read a book this summer called Choice Theory by William Glasser Md. This is a book that was written in the 80's but I think the truths in it will last a lifetime for teachers. The main point of the book is that every student has needs that need to be met in order for them to learn. The Glasser explains that the best students typically are the best because most or all of their needs are met. The needs the author is talking about are safety, love, fun, power, and freedom. If we as teachers can try to implement these needs in teaching, a higher percentage of students will learn in our classroom. Glasser explains that the best way to implement these needs is through group learning. Here is a link of more information on this book at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choice_theory

Graduate School Update!

Today in gradaute school class. We are learning how to use google reader and igoogle. Google reader is a place to add RSS Feeds of your favorite websites you visit. RSS feeds are only good for websites that get updated frequently, like news websites. Igoogle is a tool that allows you to have all of your interests on one page. This is saves internet browsers time on the internet. I chose to have my google reader as my top section on my igoogle. I wonder if anyone knows if you can have my ebay in igoogle. If you do know, please reply to my blog. Thank you for reading.

We won on Deal or No Deal!

Welcome Post

Hello, welcome to my new blog for my graduate school class. I am looking forward to expressing my feeling on education and the world. I plan on using this blog for experimentation to see if I enjoy blogging. I would love to share to the world my insights on hot topics, but since I am a teacher, I am not going to do that. I will always say things that are politically correct, which will most likely make my blog boring. I will also not talk about my personal life because I am a teacher. I think my personal life is very interesting and it is a shame I can't share it with the world. I think it would blow a lot of peoples minds!

I am now a blogger

Please read.
