Being A Teacher

I read a book this summer called Choice Theory by William Glasser Md. This is a book that was written in the 80's but I think the truths in it will last a lifetime for teachers. The main point of the book is that every student has needs that need to be met in order for them to learn. The Glasser explains that the best students typically are the best because most or all of their needs are met. The needs the author is talking about are safety, love, fun, power, and freedom. If we as teachers can try to implement these needs in teaching, a higher percentage of students will learn in our classroom. Glasser explains that the best way to implement these needs is through group learning. Here is a link of more information on this book at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choice_theory
